American Sniper Rifles: 5 of Chris Kyle’s Favorite Sniper Rifles

With the release of Clint Eastwood’s movie, American Sniper, this weekend, I thought it might be fitting to look at the favorite rifles of the American hero, Chris Kyle. In his autobiography, Kyle said people ask a lot about the weapons he used as a sniper, so he talked some in the book about the specific rifles he used. Kyle described the wide range of weapons and rifle systems he used in different situations, but I wanted to focus on the few he said were his favorite sniper rifles. So, I went back and re-read his book, and scoured the ...

Best Stocks – What The Pros Use 2013

This post is about the rifle stocks the best precision rifle shooters are using. It is based on what the top 50 long-range shooters nationwide brought with them to the Precision Rifle Series (PRS) Finale a couple weeks ago. This is the major league of sniper style matches with target engagements ranging from 25 to 1,200+ yards, but there is definitely a focus on the “precision” rifle part regardless of the range. Virtually all of the matches require competitors to carry their rifles over miles of rough terrain and fire from improvised, positional shooting positions. This means rifle stock selection is ...

AI Skins Review: AICS ViperSkins

A few weeks ago I wrote the AI Stock Shootout, which compared the different AI stock configurations available.  One of the products I mentioned that showed a lot of promise was Victor Company’s ViperSkins, so I thought a good follow-up would be a more in-depth review on that product. What are ViperSkins? The Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) is different than most stocks.  The body of most stocks like McMillan, H.S. Precision, and others are solid with some type of metal pillars or bedding block permanently embedded within them.  The body of the stock also provides part of the structural rigidity needed for ...

AI Stock Shootout: AX vs AICS vs AICS with Viperskins

My custom target/hunting 7mm Rem Mag has a McMillan A3-5 stock on it, but I’m also a fan of the Accuracy International stocks and have been considering building my next rifle on one of their chassis.  These are very popular upgrades for Remington 700 rifles.  With the recent release of their AX platform, along with the new skins available for the Accuracy International Chassis System (AICS) platform … there are a lot of options. One major benefit of an Accuracy International stock is it’s folding option.  Precision rifles can get pretty long, especially with a can.  I actually had a hard ...
